My wife's bronco is a 3 on the tree atm. I'm looking to putting it on the floor till we have enough in the piggy bank to either go with an nicely built auto or 4speed. My ? is has anyone done this. And which if any is the better company to get the kit from. Since they all seem to be roughly the same price.
IMO, I would stay away from the James Duff kit and go with a genuine Hurst. I have installed several 3 speed floor shift conversions and I have found that Hurst seems to have the best quality. Duff puts their name on a copy of the Hurst kit (most recent as a year ago when I last came across one). The shift feel isn't as sharp and they have a tendency to jam in my experience.
The 3 sp Hurst kit will be within $200 dollars of a 4sp conversion kit. I wouln't cut up your tunnel for the floor shifter when you would like to upgrade some day. If at all possible I would do the tranny swap instead.
Meaning it's about $400 for a 4spd kit + whatever the tranny itself costs? In all honesty either way i'll prolly end up with a heavy built auto cause it's the wife. And altho she can drive a standard, we do plan on visiting some mild off roading and she would handle an auto much better then trying to slowly let off the clutch and give it some gas. Where is a good source tho. to buy the hurst kit?
The Hurst 3spd shifter always worked fine for me. However, I didn't like the 3spd tranny for any serious off-roading...1st gear is too tall. Ditto on cutting up your tunnel cover if your bronco is nice at all or if you plan on going auto in the future. I have a Hurst 3spd floor shifter also a 4spd floor shifter/10 bolt top loader tranny I'd like to get out of the garage...if you decide to go either of those routes. If your interested you can pm me.

In the past have done several 3 on the tree to floor shifts. As others have stated I too have found that the Hurst kit is probably the best fit and easiest to install. Good luck and let us know which way you end up going.
