Hey all! I just bought a 2001 Navigator, I have a question about the audio system...
It has no bass at all I mean, I have the bass turned up all the way and there is absolutely no bass coming from any speakers, as if they were being filtered through a xover. Sounds like crap, missing all the low frequencies below 200k or so.
Is this possibly built in on purpose? Is the system supposed to have a subwoofer? If so, it's not working at all!
The audio components are all stock, with a 6 disk changer in the console. And if I remember correctly, there are Alpine logo's on the head unit (Not after market). I may be wrong on the brand, I'll double check tomorrow.
Hello, yes your sound system is an Alpine. The speakers on this setup produce the highs and midranges while a subwoofer fills in the rest of the thump. You are right in assuming that there is supposed to be a factory subwoofer. It is located in the rear right cargo area of the truck. It should be visible once you open the rear hatch and look to your right. If your system is producing no bass at all then I would have to say that either your amplifier and/or subwoofer have given out. In order to replace them you will need to know the proper removal procedure of the plastice surround which hides the enclosure, amp and sub. I believe that someone had posted the instructions on how to do this earlier, try to do a search. Good luck.

Oh, also, what about checking a fuse! before assuming something has blown?? This thing only has 45k miles on it, I couldnt imagine things blowing up already!?
Good point! Now that I remember there is a fuse for the subwoofer and amplifier under the hood(main fusebox is located on the right side when facing the truck, it should be clearly marked). The only problem is I don't know which one it is because I never had to replace it. The only thing I ever replaced was the actual subwoofer in MY98 Expy EB because it blew out and started making horrible clapping sounds. Anyways, it would be a great idea to check out that fuse. Im sure someone who has the books or has done this before will chime in and tell you which fuse it actually is.
P.S. The reason that I assumed your sub and/or amp have blown out is because my factory subwoofer blew out at 37k miles(replaced it with an Audiobahn Sub)! Go figure.
Ok, I found the fuse info. Checked all fuses that had anything to do with "audio" according to the book, they are all fine. Except one, its large and silver, cant see inside it to see if its blown or not?!?
My warranty has a $100 copay, so I dont know if it's worth it at this point?
Does anyone know where the amp is located? And if it has it's own built in fuse as well (like all after market amps have) ???
If the subwoofer was blown it would atleast make some nasty noise, so I am guessing this problem is caused by either the amp being blown or there is no power getting to the amp...
more than likely its the amp mine blew at 60'000 on my 97 eb and i put in another factory one and it got me to 110'000 now im at 127,000 and i went with after market because im not dealing with it again hope it works out for you
