I've been reading posts for the past 6 hours- my mind is fried, Let me lay it out and maybe some clear thinkers can set me on the right road.
Symptoms;
Window does not move with dash switch or t/g key.
A motor whirring sound is heard when either switch for the window is activated
Window will roll down while t/g key is turned only if I put pressure on the window in a downward motion. Same can be said for the return trip back to closed position- pull it.
Window is very loose in a vertical movement- (in and out)- this is when I am grabbing the window edge and pulling to bring to a closed position
T/G is closing flush but I notice some play once closed
T/G drivers wiring had a bend in it
Dreaded "slow motion window roll" happened about a week or two ago
My analysis; both swithced are okay- torque pins in the motor are bad.
I am ready to do a fix but two big concerns I have are the shattering of glass and the spring loaded activator arms.

When I did my motor I removed the motor from inside the truck, then slid the window down far enough to open the tailgate. Once the tailgate was down I fully extended the window and put a saw horse under it to support the glass while I installed the new motor. Then I closed the gate latches and rolled down the window to be able to close the gate. The spring loaded activator arms are to assist the motor to push the window up. I would not worry about them unless you're gonna replace the entire regulator assembly.

BTW: autozone and advance auto have the replacement bushings for the striker bolts to get rid of the "play" in the tailgate.

This sounds like classic torque pin failure. Mine did the same thing - if the motor is running, then the switchgear is working. When I replaced mine, I carefully bypassed the safeties and rolled the glass out while the t/g was down. "Window up" is the position of least pressure from the assist springs - and they have stops at the top of their travel. I removed the glass to keep from bumping into it. It's a pain - get a helper and plan to spend a couple of hours the first time into it. Also, for the slow motion, check the t/g wiring where is bends every time the t/g is shut. This is a classic source of trouble; as the wire is bent, strands begin to break and it transmits less and less energy. Just open the t/g and watch the visible wire harness where it bends - cut it open there and you will probably find you need to splice in new wiring. Ford probably never figured we'd have these things 20 years on. Those wires just wear out.
Good thanks Cheggie... that's the information I needed. I did notice a bend in the wire and a fray- Bypassing the safeties- I understand the drivers side t/g latch is a safety- is there another?
Actually, I think the latch is the only safety for raising the window. There is another one that won't let you open the t/g unless the window is all the way down - both of mine were disabled when I got it. But it won't affect you for raising the glass with the t/g down. I really wish Ford had just done a regular t/g with a top hinged glass, like the S-10. All around, it's a much more robust design - less prone to water intrusion, simpler, fewer special parts, yadda yadda yadda...
