over drive button

i have a 1999 f-350 7.3. when i try to trun off the overdrive by pushing the button it will not turn off is there any checks that i can do or is there a way to take the gear shift apart? any help would be great.

also i am going to change out my axle oil what is the best to use in it. oh it is a 4x4

The OD button literally just pops out of there. Need a very small screwdriver or like that to pop it out. Pop in a new one if need be and you are set. I think there is a quick test with an ohmeter and thats about it. I have heard that a lot of guys like synthetic in the diffs.

If the switch checks out.......take the bottom half of the steering column off. There you will see the very fine wires that go up to the switch. Sometimes one of those wires gets broken.

ok i checked out the switch and it is ok i still just cann't get the tranny to stay out of o/d . i need to get this thing figuared out.

Wires are cut off. Same happened to mine. Must pull shroud off from under the steering column and over. you'll fine three very thin wires going to the signal arm which are probably all broken off. repair and move wire to a less vlunerable route away from the tilt knuckle.

Is your light blinking on or off? The dealer just told me if the light does that then there is a problem

Thanks Guys I Am Going To Pull The Cover This Morning . Thankfully The Light Is Not Blinking So Hopefully It Is Just Broken Wires.
