My power door locks work sometimes and other times don't. One day the driver door will work, the next the rear left won't, etc. It is not the wiring because there is power going to them. Has anybody has this problem. Does it need a new actuators? Has anybody put in stronger aftermarkets ($10 vs $60ea.)?
My pass. front, and driver rear dont work. When i hit the lock or unlock button you can see them try and move but dont go all the way. I just dont worry about it cause its not my door.
Yup, get a new set and follow the link posted by WA Ranger. Used those steps myself to change the one on the passenger side of my '00. I had looked at it twice and couldn't figure out how to get the part out to replace it until I found those instructions. Not a hard job, really, if you take your time.
As far as aftermarket replacement, I don't know for sure. I got mine from a ford dealer. But when I got the old one out I found that it looks a little different than the new one. Actually, it was different enough that I was a little worried about the new one working. But it did, so I have to wonder if there was a redesign done at some point because of this problem.
I had the same problem with mine (also a 2000). Quote from local dealer was 59.00 until I told him that I could get the OEM Ford actuators on line from another Ford dealer in Fla. for 45.00. He quickly changed the price to 45.00 also. The aftermarket units are cheaper but I didn't want to spend the time trying to figure out how to install them since they don't simply replace the factory ones. The wiring is different and you have to hook some extra brackets up to locate them piggy back with the old ones.
