ok well there is a stroy behind this. bought my 90 f-150 with a straight 6. has duel tanks but the rear tank is no good and is dry. so the previuous owner has been running on front tank. but the fuel gauge doesnt work, it always reads over full. So my question is what is the problem? seeing the rear tank doesnwork i dont know if it is the sending unit on the front tank or something past the tank. and how should i check it? im working on getting a rear tank to see if that tank will give me a reading on the fuel level or not. any help will be appreciated. thanks.
Fuel gauge should read full with resistance of 145 ohms and empty with a resistance of 22 ohms.
It sounds like an 'open' somewhere. Disconnect the sender and measure the resistance across it. If its open or greater than 145 then you have a bad sender. If lower then the sender is ok and you have an open or high resistance elsewhere. I would ohm out the selector switch and wire to the sender next.
