Almost immediately after I purchased the F150 4 months ago, I started getting noise out of the steering at low speeds. Very recently, it increased to all the time. Now, the power steering does not work at all. My power steering fluid level is fine. I assume that I need to replace the power steering pump? How difficult is replacing the pump on this model? Is this a task that someone fairly inexperienced (like myself) could handle if I buy the handy manual?
You will also want to replace both hoses at the same time. It's not a huge job, but it's a pretty good one for a first timer. You'll need to rent a power steering pump puller. You *may* have to pull the radiator (which is a piece of cake). It depends on how much clearance you need for the puller.
If it is like my 91 F150 it is a piece of cake, once your figure out how to work the pulley puller(the universal one took me a little bit to figure out).
if you're talking about the power steering pump pulley, wouldn't it be easier in a vise ? maybe this is unnecessary, but it's what my haynes manual says.
