I will be installing my rebuilt 390 pretty soon (.030 over, some head work, pretty rowdy cam and headers). I'm using an Edelbrock RPM Performer manifold and an Edelbrock 750 cfm carb. Do I need a carb spacer on this or can I just bolt the 750 directly to the manifold? Thanks.

Well, without the spacer heat soak becomes a problem. Basically what happens is, on a hot day, you go somewhere and shut the engine off. 15 minutes later, you come back out and the motor is flooded. What has happened is, the gasoline in the float bowl has boiled off, and went into the intake. With a carb spacer, the carb stays a little cooler, and the gasoline doesn't boil.
I've also seen a thick (like 1/2") foam rubber type gasket that can be used.
So I'd run some kind of spacer, preferably a short plastic one. You dont need a real huge one.
Use the open spacer for high end HP improvements and the 4 hole one for low end torque increase. I use the 4 hole and can tell the difference in the grunt provided off the line.
