I have a 97 Aerostar V6 AWD. Lately (at about 150,000 miles) the transmission is slipping only in reverse. If I mash the gas in reverse, it slips. Additionally, the AWD light is always blinking. These things started about the same time, but I don't know if they're related.
The transmission has never been serviced (I know, I know) and I don't have a clue where to begin if I want to fix the above problems myself.
They might be related, depending on what the transfer case is doing.
Go to Autozone, Advance, or any auto parts store that pulls codes for free and have them pull 'em. Write them done and post them here.
Also I believe that the blinking of the AWD light is trying to tell you that there is a code. (like morse code.) Next time it blinks, count how many times it does it. Example: flash flash flash (pause) flash flash flash flash flash (pause) = code 35. I believe that they are two or three digit codes. Bring them here and we can translate what is wrong and go from there.
Well, fwiw, the AWD light blinks twice (about once a second) the pauses for about 4 seconds. I have not made it by the parts store, but I appreciate the tip. I had no idea. Makes sense from a sales perspective though. I'll post the codes they come up with after I go by there. Thanks again.
