Help !!

Guys, I've been trying to figure this one out for a couple of days and haven't made any headway, so here's the story:

On Saturday, went offroading in my truck, a 2000 F-150 with the 4.6L, nothing super crazy, or so I thought... Ended up hitting a sinkhole on the way out and drowning out the truck pretty good. Got pulled out, by 2 CJ's and fired her up once I was out of the water. Ran really rough all the way home. I opened up the hood and let er' sit until Monday, when I started up, everything seemed OK, but within about 30 seconds, she just stumbles along at idle, and hesitates really badly under throttle.

I tried disconnecting the negative battery cable to reset the computer, let it sit for 10 min or so with the headlight switch on to drain out any juice stored in the computer, and the same thing happens, stumbles at idle, hesitates under throttle. I can smell a lot of raw gas coming out of the tailpipe. Did I maybe fry an O2 sensor or something ? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Nate

Sounds more like you may have fried a COP. (That is if your has them). What I mean is each spark plug has its own mini "coil". They get wet and it is toast. If you are getting a CEL then take it to a local parts store and have them pull codes. Should tell you which ones are bad.

Yep. the 2000 4.6 was the first year for the COP system. I assume that by now, the spark plug wells are dry. Try not to drive it too much until you correct the problem, as raw gas entering the catalytic convertor can overheat it, melt it internally, and cause an airflow restriction.

Billybob and Paul C, thanks for the advice, it was indeed a fried COP. Another weekend project Paul, thanks for the advice regarding the catalytic convertor, I hadn't even thought of it.
