On the back of the transfer case on lower right there is a drain plug. The fill plug is right above it. Take the plug out,if the fluid is dark and not pink then change it. It depends on how much you use the 4wd as to how often to change it. I don't use mine that much so about every 30 to 40 thousand miles.

The plugs to drain/fill mine on my 98 F150 can be turned by 3/8" drive ratchet (with no socket needed). The plugs have a square recess for you to put the ratchet into. Be careful, as these are aluminum (fairly soft and can be damaged).

You should also pick up one of these pumps to make your life easier.

I learned the hard way… I used funnels, turkey basters, everything, and got very little fluid inside. This will do it painlessly.
