Ford 460 Brackets and stuff
Im trying to figure out if my accessory brackets and oil pan from my "FE" motor will fit onto the 460 crate motor that I ordered. Also, will the motor perches for the "FE" family accept a 460 block. I know that they are both big block and am just curious if it will fit. THe accessories and oil pan are my main concern right now because I know I can get conversion mounts for the 460.
All help is appreciated!!
Thanks!!!
The FE is an FE, and 377-429-460 is a 385 series engine family.
You will need to get all these things from that 385 series family.
Since i don't know what year truck you have I can't make specific recommendations.
I know for sure if you plan to run cast iron exhaust manifolds, they are Truck Specific regardless of the year.
You will require a crossmember adaptation, again depending on year.
If you have a 65 or later F series Frame you'll need to either get a truck oil pan or modify a P-Car pan by relocating the Drain Bung, or else your oil will drain out on the engine X member & make a mess.
What do you plan to do for a transmission? An FE Automatic transmission will not bolt to a 385 series, probably wouldn't like punishment either unless it's a truck C-6.
For early chassis you have to make or buy an engine mount conversion set up. For a 65 & up you can just buy frame stands, engine brackets, rubber engine insulators for a 385 series. There are after market and OEM mounts available. I use the OEMs from a salvage yard, but with new rubber insulators. They were used in 75 & up F series Ford trucks from F-150 thru F-350 but work in 65 & up F-Series including an F-100 just fine.
I prefer how OEM mount set up cross bolts engine in engine bay so it can't roll over even if mount system catastrophically fails.
You will also need a coolant recapture system or else you will be constantly adding more coolant to replace what the 460 can burp out on Op Temp Shut down expansion. A recapture system solves all that.
Anything else ?
