I have a 1969 F-100 with a 4 speed granny gear tranny that i would like to remove and replace with a different 4 speed.
i was looking at it last night. The stick that comes up through the floor can not be removed from the tranny (am i missing somthing?) What would be the easiest way to get this thing out? What will i need to do?
The other 4 speed tranny that i have the stick can be removed by just pushing out some dowel pins at the bottom of the stick. Then the only thing that is left is a short nub that the sticks up out of the floor.
I think the cap unscrews and the handle comes out?? It's been alot of years since I had that type tranny. The dome around handle unscrewed from case and you lift out handle. Maybe your tranny is different, but since there is no pin.
Yeah you are right. The cap un-screws then you carefully lift out the stick and dont lose the little pin. I was thinking maye there was a spring under the cap also. Anyways, once you pull that, there should be a plate on the "hump" around the tranny, take that out and you are set. It should have screws in it. If you dont remove the cover or plate {w/e you want to call it} its going to be really hard to get it out, I found out the hard way.
If it is the NP 435 to get the shifter out you must push down on the cup and then turn counter clock wise and it will release, becareful not pry on it or anything there are little notches that break off easy, then the cap is no good
I think it is a T18 buy the T18 stamped on the side. I just left the stick in it. I came right out with no problem. Until it smashed my ankle. oh the pain. can not walk to well. I might need a trip to the docotors office.
