Transmission Guage Sensor Location

Hi Guys(and Gals). I was thinking of installing a trans temp guage on my 99 expy. and was wondering the best place ot put the sensor. Is the plug in front of the shift selector the best? Going to start pulling a trailer soon. Thanks!

Yes the plug just above the shifting linkage is the best place.

Does anybody know the size and pitch of that plug? Is is the same on a 4R100? I would like to order the Autometer set up, but have no idea which replacement plug adapter to order from them. Thanks in advance.

The best place is in the cooling line going to the cooler.
Cut the line and install it there.
That will give a true working temperature.

Thanks for the advice rvpuller. I hooked up my guage today (+90F here in so.ont.)and evrything went ok. I bought an auto meter guage especially for an automatic trans. and although a little $$$ it did come with everything needed except wire.I placed the guage next to the centre console (99 Expy) just below the power point door. Looks Great! Removing the cover below the steering column gives you lots of room to work under the dash. Only needed to remove about 10 screws and everthing was there for wiring the guage. Now I need to drive around a few times to get an unloaded average temp. reading before hauling. Keep up the great advice!
