I had a 82' 920 for a while, then the starter went out. How is the starter sounding on yours? They are like $300.00!
Haha...yup...my starter sounds like its bouncing all around in there. I heard that its very common for the Virago's starters to be so noisy. But there's no sense replacing it while it still works I guess.
i had 920 virago and from the git go the starter sounded like it was going to come apart.i had to many bikes to count, jawa 2 of them, greeves 250 (still have it) bultaco 250 alpina, bsa victor, kawasaki 238, 100, 650 w2, yamaha 500. god i have forgotten how many bikes i had oh, frances barnet, true! and a james. brit bikes 1954
Yamaha XS 440, Kawasaki KZ 650, Honda VT 700, Suzuki GS 550, Honda GL 1000, 1992 Honda NightHawk 750(hit pregnant deer 5 days after buying bike new! Broken back), Yamaha XS 850 and currently a Yamaha Virago 750. Only been at it since 1989. Guess I am still trying to find my perfect bike!
Always wanted a bike but was never allowed one. My dad was killed on his when I was 4. What's the preferrence here? Crotch rockets or cruisers? Seen some nice looking combos. Good power and looked comfortable.
Also I thought about getting a used bike but a friend of mine recently had his alternator go out and was 700.00 for the part. This was an '02 yamaha. I always thought bikes were cheap and easy to work on once ya got the basics down.
Stators (alternator) are expensive on just about anything they come on. I would much prefer a cruiser. They look cooler while riding, more comfortable, and you don't look like just another punk teenager. I'm not dissing rockets or anything, I would love to take one for a ride once in awhile, but for an everyday rider I would want a cruiser.

A James, that brings back memories. My best friend had a James and I had a Whizzer, and we thought we were the coolest things on wheels.

I just got a "75 yamaha dt-250 enduro given to me. I managed to get an ontario ownership for it.
I've still got a few PO "mods" left to fix and hopefully it'll be roadworthy before the end of the summer.
Should make an interesting winter project to take apart for paint and restoration, if I dont find any major engine problems.
Have you been to a yamaha parts dep't lately??
$43 (CDN) for a mikuni needle valve......$54 for a 6v headlight
I think its time to go shopping on EBAY...
Just added a 1998 sidecar to my 2002 pearl white Roadking.Had it painted to match and had a custom top made for it.One sharp looking rid.The things a guy won't do for his 16 month old daughter. She just loves being picked up from daycare in it,and even has her name across the back of it.My wife rides a 2000 Duece,so when I feel the need for 2 wheels I can still hop on hers

I discovered that a round headlight from a late 70's Ford truck is the same size as the light for my '72 Honda 450, the only thing I had to do was change the plug on the bike.
My dad sold a working horn from a '53(?) Indian for $256 on eBay. He was one happy old man. haha

Yup! instead of the replacing the broken and wimpy OEM coil, I just got a 6v automotive coil from the local auto parts store. Auto coil is an "old school" motorcycle performance trick :-)
Strange thing is, that they had a 6 volt coil in stock, but no standard sized 6v tail light or turn signal bulbs.
