Hello From Virginia

Hello all,
My name is Kevin and I live in Northern Virginia. I just bought this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=4559149990

I had it delivered to me, I took it to the gas station and invested $75 and just about all of it has leaked out of the rusted out gas tanks. I was hoping to use the plow to make a little extra cash this winter to take care of my family. Looks like I have been screwed. The parking brake cable also broke first time I pressed it. I called the seller to tell them of the problem and I am waiting for their call back.

Anyways I hope it will all work out and I can make some good ford truck friends on this board.

Kevin

That's why I would rather buy a Virginia vehicle ( 6 in last 5 years)...no NY salt. It does not look like too bad a truck,of course the warranty wont cover rust. You can get tanks for about $100 each. At least that is what I paid for tanks for my 86. Good luck, George

welcome to fte's forum!

you buy a truck on ebay sight unseen that is 10 years old, a company truck that workers probably abused, you pay only 5k with plow and you expect it to be without problems? right!

you did good with price and it does look like a nice truck. leaking gas tanks and rust under truck is part of the price you have to pay. you have 6 months to sort it out before snow plow season. change oil, use motorcraft filter, check all fluids, check belts, suspension pieces for rust, wiring, plugs, etc. make list of what you see. ask questions on this forum. look over old posts for answers.you will be fine.

and twice this was in ad "All sales are final and on a AS IS basis." which means it is your problem now.

good luck with new truck.

Sorry to hear about the 2 problems with your new truck. When i bought my Bronco 4 years ago, the tank immediately needed to be replaced. I had a shop do it for about 700.00 dollars. DO IT YOURSELF.

This site has an abundance of knowlegeable owners who are more than helpful. Use the search to find as many old threads on the topic of gas tanks and brake hoses. Ive never messed with a parking break cable, but check out the threads and you'll find plenty of info.

Where in N.VA are you located? I just moved from the Mt. Vernon area to the Arlington area.

Tetnus shot needed

Ruke,
I live in Sterling and work in Vienna, it sounds like we need to meet up sometime for a beer or something. Do you by chance ride a motorcycle?

Quicklook2, it is an 8' bed, and the rest of the truck is real clean, it starts good, runs strong, shifts well, but I have not tried the 4wd yet.

It was a good lesson learned, but I think it will workout well in the end. and Yes I will do the work myself and you are right I have 6 months, I guess I could do one tank now and the other next summer.

Look for many more "how do I" posts from me, and hopefully in a year or so, I will be the one helping the new guys.

Do them both now, since going under the truck and dealing with rust flakes falling in your face is nasty. Do it and get it over with, if your budget allows.

You can get aftermarket tanks from various places, the cheapest being A1Auto on ebay. I know, ebay, well, is ebay as you found out, however I've ordered parts from them and they are reasonably decent.

Also, some of the sponsors of this website offer such parts, one being Bronco Graveyard, JC Whitney has them, and the list goes on.

If you're going to do some serious plowing (other than your own driveway), you're going to want both tanks filled to the brim. You do not get good mileage while plowing.

Welcome to the forums!

frederic, i agree with you saying do both tanks, and like i said many places to buy tank, just shop around. do you think that taking the bed off would be the best way? i think that it would be the best way to look at everything, and maybe get a little less rust in the face.
