A friend of mine has a 2001 f-150 ext cab that will start blowing the a/c through the derost vents any time a load is placed on the engine. He claims that it has done it from the day it was new and just assumed it was normal (I know, should have taken it in when under warranty). I'm sure it must be a vacumm leak based on searching through the forum.
Today, we removed the battery box to get a look at the vacuum reservoir. The truck has the original battery and upon inspection, discovered that the vacuum reservoir is broken. It appears that when the battery was installed that it hit against the reservoir and broke it. We thought that this must be the problem and taped up the hole, but it did not fix the problem. Do you think the tape was not a good enough seal? Should he replace the reservoir?
Another question. We found a black vacuum line right behind the battery that was not connected to anything on one end. Should there be any lines not connected at both ends?
What size engine? If the same as my 02', I can take a look at mine and see how it is set up. Usually with vacuum lines that are found "unplugged", I check it out to see if it supplys vacuum or pushes air. If not then I don't worry about. But it has been awhile since I have had to mess with it.
It has the 4.6 so it should be the same as yours. We "plugged" the line and it didn't change anything so we opened it back up. I'm wondering if the vacuum reservoir should be replaced. He thought that taping over the broken section should seal it enough to determine if that was the problem, but I don't know if it would or not.
It seems coincidental that the problem has been there since day one and the vacuum box is broken. If it was broken during installation of the original battery (which is still on the truck), then that would/should explain why it has always done it.
On a side note BillyBob, I'll be passing through your neck of the woods next Friday on our way to Utah. We will be heading out to ride our ATVs on the Paiute trail and will be spending the night in Denver.
AHHH!!!!! I WANNA GO!!!!! I can take the blade off of my ATV and get her ready! I will take a look at my truck today and post back. If there is anything "weird" I will take a couple of pics of it and post them in my gallery.
If you are looking for something to do while here in Denver for the night...let me know what you want to do and I may be able to recommend a few spots.
Unhook that plow and come on. I've ridden in Colorado (the taylor park area) for the past three years, but this will be my first trip to Utah.
Pictures would be great.
Might look for a good steak place. Any recommendations? I remember eating at Morton's (I think was the name) back in 99 when I was there for a job interview. Pretty good eatin best I remember. Kind of pricey too, but I wasn't picking up the tab.
There are few places around town...but I REALLY like the Texas Road House. Few of them around town. Not bad on the price either.
I will get a pic or two on my phone and get them posted. Hopefully I can get them clear enough. Send an email through the link in my profile and I will replay back with a good email for you so we can skip the post, wait for notify, post, wait of notify process in the forum. If the pics are not clear enough from my phone...I have a camera in my truck but no cable to download the pics. So it would have to wait til tonight to get them and I can email them direct.
Going to the lake for the weekend. I think the plow is going to stay on for at least another week. Time to play on the boat.
I had the problem you have. It took me 2 wks to find all my leaks. I had a plastic line broken behind the motor going through the firewall. I replaced it & my air works great.
