I got stung by a hornet or yellow jacket or something about an hour ago. I put redman on it at first then took some benadryl. I've since taken Echinasia(spl?) applied vitamin E topically, put ice on it, and been suckin' down vitamin c. it's between my eyebrow and eye. it's pretty swolen and I itch all over and have hives all over. I'm kinda achey, what could I do to get rid of this faster. it's kinda throbbing and I have a headache. but I gotta be at work at 9 tomorrow. any suggestions?
thanks

Ahh the joys of Texas. Sure hope your better by now but if your not you could go visit your local hospital, and if your not better by the time they get to you, a cortisone shot (I believe) in the posterior clears those hives up in a few hours or less.
Could be worthwhile to mention this reaction to your physician-some people I have known who get hives all over have to carry an insect bite allergy kit (an epinephrine shot) with them.
yeah, i was gonna say...sounds like you are having an allergic reaction. i've been stung by red wasps when i was younger and never got hives. you should probably call your dac and ask. my mom got a "allergic reaction" (epinephrine?) shot kit form her doc cause she doesn't know, just wants to be safe. i always use baking soda and water on the sting after it happens. bummer that its on your face, i can't imagine how much that must hurt. how'd you manage that anyhow? but seriously, call a doc or go to the med clinic
By now, I hope you are better. You were having an allergic reaction. I get the same symptoms when I take some medications. Especially Aleve. Last time, I ended up in the emergency room from it. I would either see your doctor or head for the emergency room in a case like this. They can give you medication to stop the itching and the reaction. It is nothing to fool with. A severe reaction can cause your throat to swell and stop you breathing.
well the pain woke me up bout 1:30 this mornin' I took more benadryl and an advil and got some food. I could already see the hives gettin' better. then went back to bed. got up this morning and my eye was swole shut, so I headed over to the doctor and he gave me cephalexin and methylpred.
I got stung when I ran over a rail road tie with the lawn mower that had a swarm of hornets in it. I got stung on the shoulder last time I mowed these folks yard (bout 2 weeks ago) in the same spot I so reckon it was the same thing. but I didn't have any of this reaction. less venom and I guess the shoulder has less soft tissue or something. I also got stung by a bee a week ago at the pool where I work, and didn't have this reaction. I'm on a roll, lesse how many weeks in a row I can get stung by something. :-p
EDIT: thanks for all the advice, I'm already starting to notice the swelling going down
Bit of folk medicine from my hillbilly granny - take any three green weeds, twist them together and rub the juice on the sting. In my teen years when I first received this advice I thought she was crazy as a bedbug. I've tried it several times in the years since and it seems to work. Don't ask me why, perhaps its just the power of suggestion. An even older, Indian remedy she touted was to put a mud pack on it. This, too, works - at least on wasp stings.
I got bitten by something a couple weekends ago, I think it was a spider, but I'm not sure. I woke up saturday morning at about 4:30am, I was completely covered with hives and itched all over. The bad part was my face was so swollen I could barely open my eyes. I've never had an allergic reaction like that to anything so I was really surprised. I called the on-call doctor for my health plan and he basically said to take two benedryl every 4 hours and if it didn't clear up by the afternoon go to the urgent clinic but that they would probably tell me the same thing.
I took the benedryl and that cleared up the hives within a couple hours, but the facial swelling took until monday to completely go away. It pretty much sucked.
A fresh slice on onion works great on bee and wasp stings. Several years ago I was sitting around outside, drinking beer and working on a motorcycle with some friends. I picked up my can of beer and took a healthy swallow, yellow jacket and all. I spit him out as soon as I could but not before he stung me twice on the inside of my lower lip. I went into my house, sliced a piecer of onion and held it inside my lips, on the stings. I never felt any pain at all and there was almost no swelling and no reddness. I have use this same remedy on my kids as well as a few adults and it always has worked great.
