Although this is a little late but for the next guy 390 motor mounts work just fine and only cost $13.00 slight notching of the frame on the passenger side may be required.
I would personally stay away from L&L motor mounts...I have broken two sets in the last two outings with my mudbogger. Monster...what are the other two companies that make the motor mounts. I would still use the L&L towers but the glued motor mounts are a joke...So I guess what I am asking is who would sell motor mounts that are of better quality that will bolt to the L&L towers? I thought I heard somewhere of a Crites restorations or something like that maybe...
Well do you want solid or rubber, I went with solid built by a guy down in MO. I won't advertise his number on here but if you want you can PM for it. these were a direct bolt in without modifications. there is another company that makes them but will have to do some searching to find them again if your wanting rubber mounts.
Edit. here is a link to the other one I was thinking about, it's not Crites. One of the guys on the network54 forum is using them with a 598cid in a bronco.
yes they are a direct replacement for the L&L they just redid the mounting pad for more surface area, and strength but they left the mounting bolt in the same place.
Just to clear up a few things, mostly for the confusing voices in my head!!!
Yes the tranny in the truck will work and bolt up.
No, the "fly wheel" from your 351 will not work on the 460!!
No, the "flex plate" on the 460 from the car will not work. (I'm assuming it was a C6 in car)
You need a zero balanced flywheel and a new pilot bearing for the 460 to put it to your tranny, and a good quality clutch set-up.
then get ready for gobs or torque!!!!!!!
While you have the 460 out, put in a new 71 timing chain, or a aftermarket roller set straight up!!!! Well worth it, and you have a new chain on it and don't have to do it while it's in the truck. I'd try and get the radiator for the 460 too!!!
Oh yeah, there is one more thing you are going to need if you are going to do all that and drive in the mud and 20 miles a day with a 460. Yep, you guessed it.
Lots of cash for gas!!!!!!
20 miles per day = 100 miles per week
at 8 MPG, that's 12.5 gallons per week
@ 2.20 per gallon, that is 27.50 per week
and--------------- 110 per month.
this is all based on only 20 miles a day, 5 days a week,
then there's muddin!!!!!
But, if you got the cash, you're going to have a lot of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!
