Hi all,
I'm happy to report I purchased the 89 B2 I've been looking at... and now I'm starting on the laundry list of issues:
#1. The seller volunteered the gas gauge stopped working several months ago. I discovered today that when the ignition is set to "Accessory," the gauge gives a reading. When I say gives a reading, I mean it slowly rises to about a third of a tank which I think should be accurate. When you turn the ignition "on" the gauge goes back to E.
When I turn on my ignition to ACC it goes up slowly to about 1/3 a tank too.. don't know why though. And I know I have 2/3's a tank because my gauge does work .
On my '86 Ranger I fixed my gauge by "improving" the ground contact. I found where the main harness ran along one of the I-beams, cut the black wire, and spliced in another piece of wire that I secured to the beam. I had to make sure that the beam was fairly cleaned of rust first. Make sure you seal the splice well - good vinyl tape worked for me.
