starter again...

There are two different numbers of teeth on the flywheels, I believe it was 164 and 158, or something like that. You need to have the right starter for the number of teeth. What you may need to do is mark a tooth, and count them while you turn the engine over manually. I know this sounds like a real pain, but it's easier than yanking the tranny.

Ok, I found the receipt I was looking for. The part number for the flywheel was 99828 (I think and will double check) and the description was 164 t ford flywheel. I have no clue. It's good to know that there are different amounts of teeth on the flywheels. I will count that if I can get the thing I need to hand turn the motor. Any luck that you might know which one I need???? (wishful thinking but ya never know!) I really really appreciate you guys!

Thanx!

Good luck to you. I am seriously about ready to sell the stupid thing as is and end up stuck with a loan payment on a vehicle I don't have anymore. I'm so fed up with this starter problem. It's supposed to be simple and it's got me going out the front door and parking in the street just so I don't have to look at the stupid thing cuz I know I'm likely to kick a dent in the side of it. That's how pissed I am. If my stupid uncle wouldn't have lied to me and turned into an "indian giver" and took the truck he gave me back so he could put the motor in a boat which doesn't require the body, I could have used the body of my old 83 to fix my 85 that I wrecked and I would have never bought this pos with a stupid automatic transmission. But no, he had to go and change his mind and decide that he wanted the whole stupid 83 to fix and take gold hunting in Alaska. He's 60, on disability with a bronco, a buick, and now my 83, he is talking about how he can't afford to pay the 50.00 a month for his satellite service and he's going to Alaska gold hunting...yeah right. Grow up, face reality and do something to help your family for once. But ya know, people don't listen to stupid 21 year old kids whether they're right or wrong so after 9 months of trying, I'm not gonna mess with it anymore. I've nearly gotten kicked out becuz of this mess becuz I happen to live with my grandmother and uncle.

Sorry, rant over. I really do wish you better luck than I am having. If something does go wrong, you can probably find all the other posts I have about this becuz I think everyone's just about exhausted their suggestions on my problem. Good luck.

Thanx!
