I have a 2003 Expedition. I needed new brake pads at 20,000 and now again at 36,000. I have been told that it is because it is so heavy, while someone said that I must drive it hard (maybe I do) but I can't belive that I need to replace the pad every 20,000 miles - ANY THOUGHTS?
If this is the case - can I upgrade to performance brakes? What kind?
Thanks for your response - It was the front and back. They replaced them with the standard dealer pads. Any suggestions on how to get them to pay for them?
I had to replace my front pads at 30K. The dealer also wanted to replace the rotors as well. I had them turned instead. I was told the reason for the early replacement was for two reasons, one the traffic in the DC area and two cause the vehicle is heavier. I had them replaced with ford brake pads. I think I will change to the ceramic pads when it is time again.
its known that these trucks are heavy and go through pads and rotors pretty quickly. I have 75k miles and Im about to put on my 3rd set of pads and 3rd set of front rotors. By the way, if you are having the dealer replace the pads, they are ceramic, OEM equipment should be ceramic pads on Expeditions.
A lot of SUVS go through brakes quickly because of weight... the mercedes trucks go through pads in 15-20k miles.
The brake pads that the dealer uses are JUNK! I bought a set of pads from Carquest and I have 40K plus and still half the pads left on my 99 XLT. My friend only got 35k outof his 2003 F150. Don't let the dealer replace your pads, it's easy enough to do by yourself and a hell of a lot cheeper.
have an '00 eb 5.4.(prod 6/00) 39K miles. I'm going to replace pads and rotors up front. I want to confirm with you guys: ceramic pads vs. semi metallic with 14mm rotors? I saw some 12mm rotors, but believe they are for 2wd? Am I on the right track? Any detailed posts illustrating change procedures? Thanks.
I have a 2003 Expedition bought new in 2003, dealer just replaced the pads on all 4 at 40K miles, the mechanic said they were about 30%? (I should note I also pull a 4000# travel trailer about 5000 miles a year).
Also, whatever pads they are using now eliminated the brake dust problem on the front rims.
