Got back from a 1400 mile round trip in our 04 expe. Notice that the ac unit would freeze up and stop blowing air out the vents. I had taken this complaint into the dealer in March of this year and they said nothing is wrong. . is there a TSB on this? Or how do i repeat this for the dealer?
I took it in before the mileage warranty expired now i am over the mileage warranty but wonder if i can get them to fix at n/c
thanks in advance

I have the exact same problem!!! Have you tried letting go of the accelerator? It starts blowing air again, right??? As soon as you hit the gas, the air seems to disappear and almost seems to go to window defrost mode or something. I hear it and feel it coming out the front window defrost vents on top of the dash only but nowhere else. I need to take it in to the dealer as well. Atleast I'm not the only one with this problem.

i have to turn the ac off for a minute and turn back on before air will start coming back out the vents...

I have the exact same issue with my 03EB...I too have to turn off the A/C for a minute & then turn it back on for air to come out of the vents again....What a load of crap!!!!
I havent tried letting off the gas though...Dear ford..could you please add just a few more gremlins in the 06 expedition...? Scarcasm ON!
I had the same problem on my 04 expy and had the problem fixed at the dealer. There is a tsb 02-25-7 and has been superceded by article no. 03-6-4. Have the dealer check the new tsb number. Good Luck!!

Sounds like thermostat is not shutting off a/c compressor. Freezes the evaporator over with ice shutting off air flow until turned off allowing it to melt. Worse with high humidity.

CLIMATE CONTROL - INTERMITTENT LOSS OF

HIGHWAY DRIVES - VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO
3/16/2004
FORD:

ISSUE
Some 2003-2004 Expedition/Navigator vehicles built before 03/16/2004 may exhibit an intermittent loss of cooling (temperature swings) or diminished register airflow from the A/C system during highway drives. Diminished airflow on drives of 30 minutes or more may be due to ice formation on the evaporator core. This condition is exhibited in hot and humid climates only. Temperature swings with strong register airflow may be due to unwanted cycling of the thermostatic switch. This condition occurs only when the rear climate control system is not present or turned off.
ACTION
To service, install an evaporator assembly-mounted thermostatic cycling switch and disable the TXV-mounted thermostatic switch, using service Kit 4L1Z-19E992-M. For vehicles built on or after August 2003, it is also necessary to order and install fastener W701696-S301. For installation procedures refer to the Service Kit instruction sheet.
NOTE TOOLS REQUIRED FOR PROCEDURE INCLUDE A 1/2" DRILL BIT AND A 1/2" STOP COLLAR FOR THE DRILL BIT. A SUITABLE STOP COLLAR IS CONTAINED IN MAC TOOL KIT GN5838. USE OF A STOP COLLAR IS MANDATORY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE EVAPORATOR CORE.

I have this problem but decided not to have the TSB done, but just run the rear AC when on long trips... doesn't freeze up then.
