Cool stupid question

I know NOTHING about trannys...so here goes.....

1967 f-100 360 3/tree

soon to replace the 3/tree with a C6, already have the parts lined up....just waitin till the last minute....which now seems like 5 minutes ago lol.

driving home, ran strong in 1st and 3rd gear...but in 2nd gear the engine sounded like it was gonna blow. clutch made all sorts of noise. made it home fine in 3rd.

2 hours later, truck won't start. turns over great, just won't fire. engine NEVER gave me problems till now. no lifter tick, no hard starts, no major leaks, nothing. It's gettin fuel, just no fire. Is there ANY way this could be tranny related????

yeah, grey-ish white.......I'm thinkin head gasket. musta just happened though, ran like a champ for 20 miles, shut off then this....

last checked the oil 2 days ago, oil was clean.

wonder if it's a quick fix, or may have done some other damage with the thin oil?

it would depend on how hot your head got, those old heads can take a lot of heat before warping. but from what i gather your head gasket is blown. replace it and use rtv sealant, just incase the head got a bit warped. i know you can reground them old heads cheaper then replacing them, or a salvage yard replacement, but i would still try a new head gasket first.

oh and if you do replace the gasket don't mussle it for a week, give the gasket time to seat its self.
