Firefox! Once in a very rare while, I come across a website that won't work with anything but IE. If I don't really need to download anything from them, I would rather just move on then use IE. In the past year, I think I've had to use IE twice. -TD
The sad thing is this, avant, opera, and loads of the other browsers are just different IE shells. They use the IE engine and have the same vulnerabilities as IE.. So why do they even offer them as alternatives? Opera has tabbed browsing too, but it's a PITA..

Opera is just an IE shell?? Do you have any evidence to back that up?
I think one of the best things about firefox are the different extensions you can get. A couple of my favorites are foxforcast and mouse gestures. I can't stand IE anymore. But I do find some websites that don't work too well with FF so I need IE every once in a while.
Yes, open IE and click STOP, then open Opera and click STOP.. Guess what! They SAME EXACT page loads. Opera uses the IE engine, and is therefore just as vulnerable as IE.
Firefox all the way. I HAVE to use IE for banking and a few other sites that won't use firefox.
ADVANTAGES? Firefox is faster loading pages, has no where as many "holes" and vulnerabilities that IE has, has tabbed browsing, and is FREE! Also, take support issues. A couple weeks ago, a security hole was found and within 2 days a patch was available. And it worked. Unlike M$, it would have taken two weeks, it would have crashed other programs on your computer, and it wouldn't have worked.
Me either. I read all these gripes about IE from these guys but have never had any of the problems they complain about. I have AVG, Spyware Blaster, ZoneAlarm, and Pop Up Cop running in the background and never had a problem.
Homeland Security said don't use it because of the Russian spyware server that they was collecting all sorts of info from IE users, no matter what kind of anti-virus you had. And Microsoft didn't have a patch for it for a few days. Tell me this.. Microsoft has a huge amount of people staffed for this type of thing.. how is it that the makers of everything done by Mozilla is all done by 12 people, and they have better customer support than Microsoft?
"Internet Explorer is inherently insecure. From a computer security standpoint, it's a nightmare. It is an open door for viruses and spyware that bogs down your computer with junk ads, obscene images and pop ups. Internet Explorer makes it relatively trivial for malicious software to gain access to your computer because of two technologies: ActiveX and Active Scripting. These technologies were designed with the purpose of giving web sites more control over a user's computer. But it also allows an attacker to execute commands on your computer. IE has a terrible track record when it comes to serious security issues. So much so that the Department of Homeland Security has issued an advisory against IE. And many other companies and organizations have followed suite.
Another reason to not use IE is that it does not follow standards. There is a reason that the Internet works so well: everyone uses the same "rules". A web page in one browser will look reasonably similar in a different browser because they both follow the standards that are set by The World Wide Web Consortium. Internet Explorer is the absolute worst browser when it comes to supporting web standards. This results in poor display of most web pages which contain anything more than simple HTML content.
There is an alternative!
We strongly recommend using Mozilla Firefox as your web browser. Why Firefox? While there are a number of alternatives to Internet Explorer such as Netscape, Mozilla and Opera, our favorite is Firefox. Try it out and see. It's free, lightweight, stable, secure, and has many fine features (such as tabbed browsing) that IE lacks. To ease the change, here is a tutorial on how to switch from IE to Firefox.
There may be a few sites out there that insist on using Internet Explorer. This doesn't mean that there's something Firefox (or the other browsers) lack, it's just the way the web site's programmers chose to create the site. (It most likely means that they are using Windows PCs as web servers and using Microsoft software to create active content.) It is a very bad practice for a web programmer to do this as it ensures that no other browser but IE will be able to view their web pages correctly.
You may now and then need to legitimately use IE to access a site. One important exception is to use Internet Explorer for Windows Update because no other browser will work with that site. But we strongly encourage you to close IE when you're done viewing that one site, and use Firefox for everything else." - ENS
