I have a 93 f150 and the rear spring mounts are shot ( the ones riveted to the frame ) I know this must be common, I had to replace one years ago on a 82' f150 I had- and it was a bolt on replacement. I have a few questions about this... (1) where's the best place to buy replacements? (2) Do any aftermarket companies offer a stronger setup? (3) I have the dual tanks which means the 2nd tank is right by the brackets! I would normally just grind the heads off the rivets with a 4 1/2" grinder, but I'm a little concerned about all the sparks right next to the gas tank, any other options?
the grinder sparks should be OK as long as there is no gas on the outside of the tank. if you want you can have some one hold a heat rag over the sparks.
For still sells the spring mounts. I was looking to replace mine as well, and couldn't find a local or mail order supplier for them, so I went to the dealer.
Though they won't have them down the road - they discontinued the frame rails, crossmembers, and engine support arms last year...
The replacement part is a bolt on, so you have to drill the rivets out to get the old one off. Or, grind the rivet heads off on the support side, as not to thin the frame by hitting it with the grinder.
Unless your tank is leaking, I wouldn't worry about the sparks. Obviously, don't grind AT the gas tank if you can help it. You can also cut out a piece of MDF that stands on end on the ground, leaning on the gastank, that fits the area somewhat close, to act as a deflector, if you are really, realy worried. Or wad a welding blanket into the area, overlapping the frame etc, then hold that on with clothespins.
frederic is right on. i used welding blankets when i used grinder to do mine. get grade 8 bolts. get parts at ford. they have the shackles which you will probably need also. keep a fire extinguisher close for piece of mind. good luck.
Thanks for the info, I'll shield the area between the gas tank and frame when I grind the heads off the rivets. And check with my Ford dealership for the brackets.

I don't know if they are cheaper than from Ford as I didn't get a price from a dealer, but they appear to be as heavy as OEM when I compared them to the top of the original bracket that wasn't rusted away.
I shielded the tank with a wet blanket and tinfoil when I took off the rivets.
Those are nice, great link. I wouldn't use those aftermarket brackets on an F350 that you intend to load down however. THey will bend. For the F150, absolutely, the price is certainly right.
I paid four times that per bracket from Ford, but they are meaty.
I just did this last weekend to my 95. It only took about an hour and a half. Woulda only taken a half hour if ford would have given me one for a 4 wheel drive instead of 2 wheel. The little shim in the rubber on the leaf spring wouldnt fit down into the shackle, so I did a little modifying. Grinded that shim down and beat out on the shackle lol. Works like a charm. If you have small hands like my g/f, you can just reach up between the fuel tank and frame to position the nut AND LOCKWASHER on the back side of the frame while u spin the bolt into each nut. Shouldnt need a wrench in behind there if you use an impact wrench and lock washers to tighten it down.

That's it! Thanks man... I'll have to go out and make sure they are 2 1/2" springs then get them ordered!!! The site has other great stuff too.
