I am having trouble with my 2000 ford taurus se 3.0 flex fuel. the check engine light is on and the dtc code is P0171 and PO174, I have checked my pcv and gromet for leaks changed the fuel and air filter and replaced a faulty tps and after a cople of days the check engine light comes back on. I also checked all of the vacume lines for leaks. any ideas are greatly appreciated.
As you seem to know, those are lean codes, which means that the engine is getting too much air and/or not enough fuel. By far the biggest cause of lean codes are vacuum or gasket leaks, allowing unmetered air in. Have you looked over the EGR system? Also, you might try the propane torch trick to check for leaks around the intakes.
A fuel pressure test is something you should try to get done. Keep in mind too that the FFV 3.0L injectors are bigger than the regular 3.0L injectors, so a fuel restriction issue will affect things that much more on a FFV.
A dirty MAF sensor can also cause lean codes, I recommend that you clean yours: Cleaning Your MAF Sensor
Not sure about the Taurus engine, but some chebby engines get loose intake manifold bolts which cause a lean condition. I periodically, say every year or two, will just take a ratchet and socket on an extention and go around the manidolf bolts to make sure they are snug. More often than not I will find one or two loose ones. This is a free and easy fix so worth doing any time you think there may be a problem.
I cleaned the mass airflow sensor and is now running fine thanks shawn
