97?

I saw an F-150 today advertised as a 97' did they make the old body style in 97? also did they 96' (or 97) motors have increased horsepower and torque numbers over th early engines?

It's a 4x4 reg cab short bed standard tranny, manula t-case, dont know the engine yet. sound like a good deal? they want 5,200...

Thanks!

The 97 was a different bodystyle than the 92-96 in the F150. The F250 and up retained the early bodystyle that year but I'm not sure when they changed over.

Cheers,

The motors in the '97-up F150's are completely different than the '96-down motors. The newer trucks have the 4.6L and 5.4L V8's. The older have the 5.0L (302) and 5.8L (351W) V8's and 4.9L (300) inline-6. The new motors are more powerful as well as more economical than the older ones, even though I prefer the older trucks and motors.

The new F250/350 design came out for the '99 model year (so mid-late '98 is when you could buy them). At that time, Ford also droipped the light-duty F250, which was the same body style as the '97+ F150s.

The light duty F250 existed up until '04 best I recall, just rebadged to "F150 7700"

F-150's have been around for years. The F-150 badge started as a heavy half ton 2wd or a 4wd F-100. In 97 the new body style F-150 and light duty F-250 was introduced. The super-duty version of the F-250 started in 99. You could still get the old body style F350 in 97.

agreed. It is not a 1997, even if advirtised. That's wrong, and if the people/dealer can't get the year right on a vehicle, I wouldn't advise buying from there...

This similar thing happened in 1980, when we had a new company truck F250, and it was the new body style in 1980 but from the dealership and on title it was a 1979; so some of them do slip by occasionally on the change over.

I wouldn't put it past Ford to have some 97 f150 around. Look what they did with the 04 Heritage f150. If it is an f150, then I would say the ad is wrong.

are you certain it's a 150, the 250 retained the older box style until 98.
