chips price and performance??

im just curious with the price of diesel on the rise, if anybody can give me some info on the price of the superchip and the settings options. some testimonials would be nice also. i hav3e a 2001 f-350 crew cab and havent seen over 15 mpg since ive owned it. i dont think that is normal. also i was thinking about changing exhaust and adding a k&n air filter, any words on that? thanks for the input.

well man i have an 02 250 with the 7.3/ and i average around 17. i have exhaust intake and the superchip, but thinkin about gettin a jody tipton chip. if you are under 100k i would go with the superchip or the preadator both good. it's all in your opinion which is better. i can tell you that the programmer will make a huge diff. u wont believe your truck had that much power! also i get 17 with a 4 inch lift with 35's. hope this helps!

yeah i got my speedo recalibrated. so it is pretty accurate. I norm get bout 450 - 475 rang before it is almost dead. the hard part with those programmers is when you know u have alil more power ur gonna use it. just remember that it is there and only use it when necessary. This is to benefit your MPG.

I would recommend not getting a K&N airfilter but rather getting the Napa 6637 air filter. It is a cone filter that replaces the leaky stock airbox. Heres a good post on it with pictures:

I believe Jody's econo tune is his 80 HP tune with a few things tweaked differently. I do not know what. I have read many, many posts from people with this tune that are just blown away with the improvements. I don't think Jody would post expected mileage gains because every truck/trans/gearing is different. Remember he burns his chips and PCM's for your individual truck. It is not like buying a programmer/chip with off the shelf burns. Those will fit any of 1000 trucks. Jody's is burned for yours.

I ran a K&N FIPK open air filter for a year or better, now I am running with the 6637 filter to compare, I actually think the intake tube looked cleaner with the K&N than it did with the 6637. You have to maintain the K&N more since it uses the oil as the filtering media, but it works as well or better than the others. Yea it costs more initially, mine was right at $200, but the 6637 cost $50, and after a couple of years with the 6637(~4 filters) both filters will cost the same, beyond that the K&N will be cheaper. Just my observations.

You can get the 46637 wich is the Wix number for the same filter at fleetfilter for $18.70 that makes it way cheaper than the K&N.

That it would, I'll have to look into it.
Sorry to get off topic, but a good chip or programmer set anywhere from 60-80hp would most likely get you your best fuel economy. As other's mentioned, if you have higher settings than that, it's hard to keep away from them and keep your foot out of the floorboard. With the mods I have, my chip increased my mileage around 1 mpg, it's not much, but for the more power I have and as much more fun my truck is to drive now, I'll definitely take it.

I paid over $40 I think for my first 6637 also, but you can bet I'm ordering the next from fleet filter.
On topic. I have been running around in the 70hp mode and it apears to be the best for milage. I dont have any firm calculations yet, but by the miles driven versus the usual place the needle is on tells me its doing better.
Either Chipped or programmed these trucks are night and day from stock. I couldnt believe it the first time I turned the dial on mine and pressed the pedal
The first time I smoked some guy in a Hemi it was priceless. My guess is the next time he hears "That gotta Hemi in it?" he wont reply "Yes but it got wooped by a giant SUV!"

I can't argue the statement about it being hard to stay out of the higher settings on a chip !

However, I see way better mileage out of my chip on Econo setting than I did out of my programmer. I saw a 2.1 MPG increase over my programmer. In fairness to the programmer it was a 1705 from 2 1/2 years ago. Their programming may be better now.

FWIW,

Tom
