I see you did a search, but you may have more luck with the advanced search feature if you didn't use it the first time. Click on Search at the top of the forum, then Advanced Search. Choose the 1948-1960 forum in the lower-right list box, then type in your search words or phrase in the box in the upper-left. Try something like
+suicide +doors +hinges

and, for the shaved handles

+shaved +handles

The + signs tell the search engine that the word MUST be in the result. Enjoy!

Another board I've found invaluable info on is Hotrodders.com. It doesn't get as much admin attention as far as updates like FTE, but the forums stay pretty lively... Anyway, check out this site and do a search within it and specifically within the forums. There're a lot of sharp guys on that board and I have read a lot on Sui-doors at this site. Biggest rules, go slow, & keep your hinges aligned with respect to each other.

I did it to my 53, it is alot of work. If I had a choice on whether to do it again or not, I would It all worth it. I wrote up a semi tech article on another board, here is the link, I hope it works, but I also have more pics and the article I used somewhere.

Suicide

The really difficult part is the lining up of the doors, you have to make sure your cab and doors are solid, and again measure 10 times weld once.

I did it with my trusty flux core welder, a grinder with cut off wheels, and a lot of enthusiasm. I wish I had the welder I have now (HOBART 175) but it still worked out.

I will be out on vacation, so if you are interested PM or email me to send you more stuff.

Good Luck

This is the address just in case is does not work.

Red face

Hey wakywaco,
As tempting as it sounds, with the lack of space and time, it would be really hard to do it again. If I had both of the above I would do it. When I did it, I had space but little time, so it took about 7 days after my 8 to 5. It was hell putting it 8 hours of work and then coming home to another 7 hours on the truck. As you can see in my gallery, and the suicide door link (the last picture), I would work on it and then not even finish the body work for several weeks and drive it cause I had to being that its my daily driver.

Too many projects, too little time. Sorry
