I have a 78 F150 and the C6 is leaking tranny fluid around the pan so I figured that I would just pull the pan, replace the filter and gasket and solve the problem. But I think that if I was remembering right that the back bolts were going to be a big pain in the butt, cause of the crossmember. I'm I thinking right? If I am is it just easier to put a jack under the tranny and pull the crossmember? Seems like a lot of work if I don't need to. I know how to change the filter and everything just was wonderin about those bolts. Thanks everyone who responds.
P/s: I am looking for a right front fender and a left door for the same truck in good shape. If anybody comes across one or the other please let me know. Thanks again.
i just did a tranny fluid drain and replace like you are talking about in the last 5 months. did it in the alley behind my garage in about an hour. you just have to have very dexterous fingers and some fancy work with a socket set but its not too bad.plan on getting dirty, as mine was leaking also and it made for a lot of dirt and grime to fall on me. but you dont need to remove the crossmember, ford wouldnt design their trucks that way.

I've used a 1/4" flexible 1/2" socket and extension for years - it lets you do the job withought moving the crossmember. PLUS you can have a handy tool for other jobs in the future, too....
