im removing my e4od from 92 f150 4x4 and ive found the threads to get me as far as i have. i have bellhousing bolts out, linkage disconnected, wires disconnected and fluid lines, driveshafts out, and tranny is resting on the tranny jack or at least the front of it is. I just want to know if i have the jack in the right position so when i go to taking the crossmember out it doesnt just flip over or plump to the ground....ive read you can drop the tranny with the transfer case still attached so thats what i plan to do. The plate on the jack is about even with the fluid pan from front to back. just seems to me that jack is gonna flip right over backwards when i get those crossmember bolts loose. just any input would be appreciated so i dont make any more mistakes than i already have! Thanks!
I used 2 ratchet straps to hold my tranny to the jack just to be safe. Worked great on an E4OD with the transfer case still hooked up. http://i.minus.com/jb0znen35v1tdX.JPG
yea kanglar my jack has a chain that wraps around the tranny to keep it on the jack. just dont want the jack itself to flip over. never pulled a tranny before so just new to it. appreciate the input though
Oh I see. If you have one of the floor ones like I used you shouldn't worry at all. If you have one of the tall ones and the truck on a lift I would have a buddy to help stabilize it, but it is pretty well balanced. I guess it also depends if you have the TC coming out with it or still bolted on the flexplate. With the TC and transfercase the point of balance is right below the shift lever/shaft. Good luck!
Preciate it and yea I have a floor jack similar to yours kanglar. And yea my truck is lifted so the bottom of the cab is 2 feet off the ground so that helps ha don't need a lift or jack stands. I had my jack placed vertical with the truck but by your picture you had yours horizontally, I think I will try that it looks to work better that way and I believe I will place another strap with the chain. And yea the TC is coming out with the tranny, that's what I have to replace front pump seal, it's been leaking out the rubber plug on bottom of bell housing. Preciate the input feel more confident about it now
