I know the E4OD I had used a switch that shut off overdrive. Not sure about it being shift controlled by computer too... It was a 1990 Super E350 van. Basic EEC IV ECU, which I believe never had much say over shifts, unlike OBD II. (someone correct me if I'm wrong) So, maybe it can be used behind an older, carbed engine? Pretty heavy sucker though, lemme tell ya! I think an aftermarket AOD would be better for the 351W, and still take the power. (not stock AOD)

I think the E4OD is 250 lbs or something crazy... Why not just use an AOD? Then you can use a carbed engine still; keeps the options open?
Couple years ago, it cost $2500 CAD to repair the E4OD in that van... It was really cratered. What would it have cost for a brand new unit? For the same money, you can get an all-out race AOD with awesome torque converter.

Sheesh, sounds like an awful lot to do! My E4OD was behind a 1990 EFI 460. I am sure it got the 1996 updates when rebuilt.
Just the sheer weight would make me think twice... I've bench pressed many a C6 on the driveway, but when I saw the E4OD, I almot passed out! lol
Sounds like a stand-alone controller for it. That could be a cool factor, but is it really worth the extra cost and work?
