Help quick please

Anybody know what to do with a dog that has got into rat/mouse poisen? My grandma said she she had it where the dogs couldn't get to it (pomeranians) and I heard a dog gagging so I ran in there and she was chowing down. What should I do?

Try to find a vet to call, or call a poison control center. should be a 800 number on the package.

There's a 24 hour vet but they're too expensive and I don't have that kind of money. I don't think she ate very much, if any. Most of it was crumbled in her fur and there was a bunch on the ground. She hacked up some of it.. I hope she'll be ok.

Get a phone book quick!!! Find any Vet that will talk to you, and take the poison to the phone to help describe it! Get a ride( car, truck etc) ready! Call for a ride if there isn't a car, you may want to run to the vet asap.

Check for woman's humane society in the book, they are cheaper!
Can you read the poison label??? There must be immediate care instructions in case of emergency.

I'm looking at a first aid book for cats, wrong animal, but, alot of the poisons listed require veterinary treatment. What is the poison, give us a chemical name!

They do . All rat and mouse poison that is an anticoagulant.

A dog can eat a small amount and be alright .

It just depends on how much it actually ate.

Well I don't think she got much if any at all. She weighs about 10 lb and I think she was just gnawing to gnaw. I washed her mouth out and took her outside. She drank some water and chewed on grass and threw up. It's been almost an hour now and she's alert and active and nothings abnormal. I can't afford anything I'm 18 and bills have taken my life over. I'm just crossing my fingers.

Bubba.. since you're already here. Have you checked the solenoid? What sounds does it make.. if any. What makes you think it's electrical?

Eating grass is a natural instinct to induce vomiting. If it has done this and it didnt get much I say your fine.

I wouldn't let that pooch out of your sight tonight.

You need to get a plan for doggie emergencies, you have to be ready in case that dog ever gets into some serious trouble. You should know where to go in case it is three in the morning, and the dog gets hurt, and be prepared and willing to accept some more bills. The dog is family.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog... and I hate to say this in your time of strife, but nobody should own an animal if they can't afford to take care of it properly.
PERIOD.

If she chucked it up - I think she'll be fine now. Dogs are smarter than people in some ways - she knew she had to get that junk out of herself.

The next indicated step is to find out what else your Grandma thought was out of reach...

Over all, I'd say you made all the right moves. But keep an eye on her just in case.
