My buddy came and stayed with me over the 4th weekend. It was awesome to see him- we like grew up together. He always helps me tune up my F150 when he is out, cuz his dad was a mechanic, which is great for me. He put on the new Styx album while we were working- man, it was crazy to hear them again. I remember slow dancing to babe in hs. They were my band. Takes me back. Val
I've still got a lot of my Styx vinyl. Remember the Paradise Theater album? The record had an image on the backside of the record. Looked like 2 angels. And the MR Roboto album. Some people think the song was corny, but if you listened to the whole album you realize its part of an Orwellian style story of freedom vs big brother. And Come Sail Away was probably my first favorite song as I was growing up.
My wife grew-up in the South side of Chicago. One of her sisters knew two of the guys in the band...before they became a band. I've always liked Styx, good to hear that they're still around.
I finally got to see them in concert a few years ago, Tommy Shaw was back, and it was excellent! I have a few cd's and tapes, I wore out Caught in the Act a couple times... so I got the cd to take it's place... I have Paradise Theatre and the latest Greaest Hits they put out, 2 cd's worth on it, covers most of their best.
hey shortwavez, i heard that they put out a new album, it was pretty good? maybe i'll have my dad go in halves with me since i'm short on cash right now....
Styx has a new video up on their site for I am the Walrus, which is a song they cover on the new cd. I really took a good look at their new release Big Bang Theory. The sweetest part is the new studio version of Blue Collar Man! The new release is more for fun as Styx pays tribute to some legendary rock songs.
Styx will be playing at the Elkhart County Fair in northern Indiana July 23. The wife and I are planning on being there. Been a looonnnggg time since I've been to a concert, and this should be a good one!
They tour quite a bit, and I caught them in 2000 and 2002. They look like they're having fun. During the 2000 concert, they played a tune from their new Cyclorama album (the one with the floating carrot cover), and everybody that was standing up and dancing immediately sat down. I felt bad for them. Doomed to play their oldies.
I wouldn't mind seeing Dennis DeYoung back with them. Is he over his photosensitivity problem? Other than Renegade and Blue Collar Man, he wrote all their best tunes.
