I`m thinking of installing an edelbrock performer package which consists of a new intake and 4 bbl. carb, lifters and cam. I`m not looking to make a race truck i just want to get all the performance i can out of my current 400m 2v. I currently have an egr which is not working due to the fact it`s not getting any vacuum. In your opinion should i get an intake suited for an egr or not? I have a 1979 f150 4X4 auto on the column that the previous owner removed the smog pump and got rid of the cat and fabricated duals through what looks like stock mufflers with no h pipe. I`d like to install flowmaster 40`s with delta flows like i have on my old galaxie 500 that has a 390 4v. Also could someone please explain to me what the reference to a highboy means to these trucks. I`ve been told that my truck is a highboy. I`ve done a search on this forum and only come up with pictures. Any opinions would be appreciated. This my first 4X4 that i`ve ever owned. I`m gearing it to be more of a friday night cruiser because i couldn`t ever take her offroad(might scratch it you know)That`s the problem with being a detailer. All looks and afraid to get it dirty. Thank you for letting me ramble on! here`s the specs. 1979 ford f150 xlt long bed 4X4 3.50 rear with limited slip C6 trans 400m 2 bbl.6500 gvwr dual shock front end. She`s a black on black beauty.
that kit will be just fine for your truck. it may even get better gas mileage. your truck is not a high boy. those were early 77 and earlier. after 77 1/2 the stance was lower and the 4x4's. some call those after that period low boys.that kit will really wake that motor up. unless you have deal with emmissions testing i would get the non-egr manifold. get rid of all of that smog crap. don't forget to put a new timing chain in it too.
