Centering Proportioning Valve
Hey Guys, I got a great response to a previous post by Torque1st, Thanks a lot. Anyways he stated that I need to refer to my owners manual on how to center the brakes on my 1978 F150 2wd LWB with front disc and rear drum. There's one problem. I dont have a service manual, around here all they sell are Haynes and I want a Chilton's so thats why I dont have one. If someone could instruct me on how to center the brakes I would greatly appreciate it.

this is what i have out of Haynes manual: to centralize the pressure differential valve, fill master cylinder reservoir and make sure system has been bled. turn ign switch to on or accessory. slowly press the brake pedal down and the piston will center itself. check the brake pedal for firmness and correct operation. hope this helps. BTW, Chiltons is now owned by Haynes.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Jan-03 AT 04:13 PM (EST)]The trick when centering the switch is to open a bleeder on the side you want to move it to. Watch the light on the dash and you should see it go out if you push very slowly. If the light blinks off once and comes back on you went too far. Then just open a bleeder on the other side and try it again. Sometimes it does take a fair amount of pressure to get that switch to move. Good Luck.
