Smile More clutch problems

I lost the clutch in my newly aquired '01 F-150. It turned out the reservoir was empty so I filled it but the pedal seemed low. This morning my son and I bled the system as per the manual. I was shocked to see a long "worm" of unknown material come out of the bleed valve along with the usual bubbles and dirty fluid. Any idea what that could have been?
It became evident that pumping the pedal was not getting any fluid to the bleed valve. The reservoir remained full and the supply line to the transmission went dry.
OK, I thought, Master cylinder problems. I have removed everything per the manual to remove the cylinder except the clutch position switch which rides on the push rod. I have NO idea how to remove this part and it HAS to come off in order for the cylinder to clear the hole in the firewall.
Can anyone tell me how to remove this switch? Also do you think I am on the right track as far as the problem being the master cylinder? Are there any systemic problems with this system I should know about?
I rebuilt the clutch system on my RX7 and they are the same except for the internal slave unit. There isn't a lot to go wrong.
When I get the switch off I will bench test the system as per the manual.
Any help ASAP will be appreciated. I am in South Louisiana and we may have a level 3 hurricane on us in the next few days. Would be nice to have this running by then in case I have to head for higher ground.
Thanks Mr. MagOO

I removed the master cyl on my 1993 F-150, but don't remember the switch being an issue. If we didn't have ongoing hurricane weather at the moment (and the weekend), I'd go out and take a look to see if I can figure it out for ya.

If the line to the tranny went dry... without thinkign about it too much... could that 'worm' of material have clogged the line above, thus keeping fluid in the res.?

Seems that, on other makes and models, it is always the slave cylinder that goes out on me. (When my 1993 needed some work to the master cylinder area, it was a plastic end-piece on a pushrod that snapped). Yeah, I go through clutch parts too danged fast... too fast of a pedal push I guess.
