ditto on what david t says... 100hp/200 ft lbs tune is sick... if you're out tromping around with that one on a dailly basis.... better plan on putting a new tranny in your psd... and it better be alot stronger than the original one...!

If your worried about the tranny and don't want to spend $4000 on a bullet proof tranny. Then put in the Sonnax/Tricumulator kit and a 6.0 torque converter and that will get you by for a relatively cheap investment.

Ok, please explain to me how putting a chip on the INSIDE of the truck allows water into the pcm?

1) The dessicant qualities of fiberglass substrate of the chip circuit board suck water out of the air.
2) The excess power causes the driver to go insane & drive down the nearest boat ramp, thinking he has enough power to "drive" across the lake.
3) The installer wanted to clean the PCM contacts, so he used a hose...

Seriously, now... I've used the SCMT and the Edge Evolution. I can't use the Predator, since I have an OBS. The SCMT seemed to be a bit milder and I was able to use the 10k mod with it. The 10k mod causes a CES when used in conjunction with the Edge. The Edge also changed the shift point of overdrive from 35mph to 40mph in the 80- & 100-hp modes. The 60-hp tow mode in the Edge saves a lot of shifting on freeway overpasses when towing. I like the real-time monitoring offered by the Edge.

The PCM is inside the truck.
You would need a foot of water INSIDE the cab for it to get wet.

The only thing I can think of is that he said "ecm" and not pcm, which would lead me to believe that he is thinking of a chevy and not a ford, either that or the ford gassers may have an ecm under the hood, and he is selling alot of superchips tuners to them guys, because, as most know, a custom tuned chip will kick the programmers *** all day long, on a powerstroke.

Chip Vs Programer

I have tried both I had a 50 hp and a 75 hp boost chips that I got from Performance Unlimited a guy out of Lubbock, TX. Both worked great for a while until the clips got tired and would short out the pc. Like when you were in #1 lane on 405 freeway in rush hour which would kill engine until you turned off key unpluged chip and repluged and rebooted whole thing.
So went to Hypertech programer and don't have that problem or the Admerial yelling at me for the dead truck syndrom. The boost is not as good though I think I was getting more out of 50 hp chip then the 100hp Hyper-tech claims for Stage 3.
But no more dead truck.
As far as getting the esu (or what ever it's called) wet on the 98 and back power strokes that was outside the cab on the left fender. Not the smartest place.
That's the only defence I can give to the guy who claims they get wet.
The other problem I had was with the 75 hp chip I had to lug the engine to tow at 55 or drop down to 5th gear. Fuel economy was around 12 mpg towing Jeep in CA at 55. But jumped back up to 16-17 towing 75mph in AZ.
So if someone out there knows how to keep those clips tight sure would love to hear it. I miss the Power. Tried bending back to tighten them up like Darin told me but just loosened up agin and would get hot.
I did call Hyper tech and ask if they would re program my programer to the chips specs and they said NO different technology.

The chips probably shorted out your PCM because they became loose. It happens but it is not very common.

As for the programmer being able to meet chip specs..........I don't know about that. I have never heard of a programmer making more horsepower than a good chip. At least on the 7.3 PSD. Somebody correct me if I am wrong please.

The chip I have (DP Tuner) is custom burned for my truck with the mods I have on it. It is also set up to lock/unlock the TQ converter where and when I want it. Because I already have the Sonnax/Tricumulator shift kit. It is setup to regulate the transmission line pressure for that kit. I had more fuel programmed in because of my BB turbo. Downshift/upshift points are set to where I want them in every mode (example: towing on Econo mode). Etc, etc, etc.

I have a 6 position chip. This gives me tons of flexibility.

Positions
1)Valet (75% of stock power): For when anyone else drives my truck

2)Stock:

3)High Idle: For winching or charging batteries.

4)Econo: For maximum mileage on long trips.

5)75 HP: Daily driver

6)140 HP: For maximum grinning!!!

Programmers are set up to fit any of 1000 trucks. So are most chips. The DP Tuner (Jody Tipton) chips (and PCM's) are burned strictly for your rig.

IMHO

Tom

please explain how water gets inside the pcm which is inside the cab??? the only part of pcm on the outside is the main plug on the firewall side. my chip is inside way above my feet. so i do not get it about the water. also the original plug was not water tight either.

You cannot use a programmer with a chip. The chip overrides the programming in the ECU and the truck runs off of it's program.

The pcm circut board is diped in a wax and put in a aluminum case at the back of this case is a black plactic plug this is where all the chip style plug in to the pcm but you have to clean off the wax at this conect spot now water can cause a short if it was to get submerged.
