Header swap?

I have a set of long tube, full size small block headers that I believe came off an early 70's Galaxy. I'd like to put them in my '73 F-100 2wd (302, C4, standard brakes and steering). I know the only way to be sure is to simply try them, but does anyone out there think they'll fit?

Good luck. I have no idea, but I wanted to add, I have full length headers from summitracing.com on my 1979 F100 302/c4. 89 bucks for the pair. Trouble free so far.

JoeBlow, was that summits brand or some other brand? How long did you have them, and does it seem to have any exhaust leaks yet?

Just interested, and I was thinking of getting a pair from summit, but wasn't sure how they would perform and hold up over time.

Summit's brand. I have had them for a year with no troubles. Summit is great to deal with.

That's good to know, how long did it take you to install the headers, and how hard was it to take off your exhaust manifolds. (broken bolts, etc....)

Thanks for the help so for,
-Matt

Actually, mine already had headers on it and I damaged those backing over a curb. so they swapped out pretty easy. Passenger side dropped right in, had to jack the drivers side up. Took about 3 hours of drinking and cussing and BSing around. I tend to work slow. ONe problem. they sit at the exact same level as the tranny crossmember and the bend is tight to get it over it. I put a cheap flex pipe on it until I could get to an exaust shop and have it done right.

I was planing on driving it to a exhaust shop after I put the headers on so I won't have to worry about that problem. I want to hear them, just headers, no muffler no nothing for about 20 min. until I get to the shop.

Either way I have a feeling the drinking and cussing is going to happen.

Thanks for the help,
-Matt

It is loud. Really Loud. I bent the originals down when the pipe bent and had to drive an hour home with the headers pointed straight down. My ears were ringing for 24 hours after that.

The headers come uncoated, so you will have to paint them or they will rust up real fast. They come with 2.5" reducers so you don't have to buy them seperate. That'll save you 20 bucks. I found out the hard way... If anyone wants them PM me. I'll give them away for free. I also bought the $14.95 summit turbo mufflers. No problems yet. They sound ok, pretty loud but not overpowering.

I'm getting a pair already painted with the reducers, and I'll just give them guy at the muffler shop. For $100 dollars that isn't bad. He'll then put the reducers on and dual exhaust with 12" glass packs and some 24" long 4" wide crome tips all for $160.

$260 for a complete exhaust system, sounds good to me.

JoeBlow,

Are there any identifying marks on your Summit headers? I've checked out a lot of sites, and these look more like the Summit's then anything else.

Absolutely nothing on them. No labels maybe some part number, but I don't know where to look for it.

the part # is SUM-G9032

Just checked summits site. http://www.summitracing.com

They dont show a header for the early 70's galaxie. So I don't know.
