Sorry, one more thing, if one runs up the engine and holds it a certain RPM for 20 minutes (or so) the window of opportunity to seat the rings get lost. Thats some thing that needs to be done right away and best done with varying loads of acceleration and deceleration of the engine. Oh well, its just something more to ponder as though cranking up a new engine isn't worrisome enough. Good luck, friend.
I'm a broken record about this, but it's worth repeating - be sure to add some STP, GM EOS, or WalMart TechLube to your oil. They contain a compound called ZDDP. It's a high pressure lubricant that used to be an additive in motor oil. It helps lubricate the cam, lifters, pushrods and other steel-to-steel wear points.
The Phosphate in ZDDP is bad for catalytic converters, and modern engines with roller lifters and improved metalurgy don't need it as much as older engines. At the request of car makers, lube oil makers have been taking more and more of it out of motor oil. Diesel engine oil and some motorcycle oils contain ZDDP, but regular modern motor oil no longer has enough to protect older engines.
That motor looks GREAT! I love the heads.
FYI...The best time to fire it up is 5:00 a.m. on a Monday morning....If your gonna hear about it , why not get the most mileage for the noise!!!
Way Cool Flatty! Love the black and chrome theme! Inspires me to go wrench on mine...go ahead and fire that bad boy up - any way you can do the wave file thing and post it so we can hear what it sounds like? I'm asking something that I've no idea how to do but it would be really cool to hear it. Maybe someone with technological savvy could tell us how to go about doing it?
