Hi,
I have recently acquired a 78 F-150 Ranger Explorer trim PU. The truck had been in a garage in Northern Michigan for the last 25 years and was completely original. I had the truck painted and I would like to replace the stripes it had on it. The truck is dark red (code N) and had wide orange and tanninsh stripes on the hood and down the sides. Does anyone know where I might locate these stripes? I have only seen one other truck with these stripes in a photo on the net, so I think it was a trim level offered by Ford.
Search through the galleries and you should find a truck with an Explorer trim package. My '76 has similar stripes and I couldn't find anyone that reproduces them. You find some NOS if your lucky but I doubt it.
I think you'll have to take some measurements and mask/paint the stripes back on.
If you find a source for reproduction ones let us know.
My truck used to be a 78 withthe free-wheeling package on it. withthe rainbow stripes running down the sides. I know ill never find the orignal stripes for it to put on it if i ever wanted to make it orignal.
my truck has the explorer stripes check my gallery. i don't think they are available. you could have them repainted. i saw a set on ebay once but later learned that the stripes had no shelf life and we longer good.
The shelf life for the "Explorer" stripes were about six months if you were lucky. So any that Ford had have long since been gone.
Take measurements of the old stripes, or find someone who can measure theirs for you, (a picture of a truck intact would be helpful) and take them to a auto paint/body shop. They should be able to duplicate the stripes for you. Either in paint or after market stripe.
You can also do what I did when I was 18, if you are really desperate, get some paint chips from the hardware store and have them mix you up some latex to match, paint the stripes on with a brush then clear coat it.
Would be ok for a daily driver.

Check with a sign maker or someone who letters big rigs. They should be able to do the job no problem and probably have acess to the vinyl striping material you would need.
