86 F150 emissions warning light is on. Anyone know how to turn it off? Neither my owner manual nor my repair manual tell me anything about turning it off. Does it just go out after a while or what? I removed the bulb until I get an answer.
You need to find out what has happened to cause the light to come on. I guarantee you that you are going to have performance issues, and / or worse gas mileage if you dont check things out.
As I understand it, when the emissions light comes on in a 1986 model, it only means that scheduled maintenance should be done, i.e. replace two or three emission components, etc. It is supposed to come on at 60,000 mile intervals + or - according to actual run time. I have already replaced everything which can be replaced on this truck in the past 2 years so it shouldn't need anything at all. As for disconnecting the battery, I have tried that and it doesn't work on this truck. Thanks for the replies.
