Possible CPS PRoblem?

ok, heres the deal.

im getting on the freeway the other day and i just shift into 5th and wind up the turbo when all of a sudden i loose power as if i let off the gas, but i hadnt, and i looked at the tach and it wasnt registering anything at all. then all of a sudden it fires and seems to be alright, so i give it some pedal again and same thing, only this time i coast to a stop on the side. hope out and check everything (fuses etc) and everything is alright, so i hope in the truck and crank it over while holding the pedal down and vroom, im up and running again.

anyway, now i have some seriously weak low end power and it seems like the turbo is my only power. i do fine when im spooled, but no power in the lower rpms.

anyway, i think this is the CPS acting up on me. it hasnt doed since, but it stated real rough once this afternoon, other than that, just the loss in power.

so, the questing here is what am i looking at for $$$$ on and new one. i hear the international ones are cheaper and better than ford, but i dont know if we have a international deal in town.

It's probably the CPS. Having no tach is a dead giveaway for that problem.

International has them for half the price of ford dealers. take the old one out and get the number of it. its the deal that is part of the timing indicator on the front cover. unplug it, use 10mm socket and get it out by wiggling it. it has a rubber o ring seal. the number has numbers a letter and a few more numbers. put a little oil on the new oring going in. good luck.

see, when my truck would die on the freeway, when the chip was going bad, the tach would drop off too, but like i said, could be a CPS, maybe.

no chip, no nothing, just a stocker.

i really think its just the CPS, but it expensive and dont want to drop 100+$ on something thats not needed.

and yes, the tach does not work when this problem happens.

thanks,
Callen

go to international, buy a cps, install it. If it doesnt fix it, keep the other CPS as a spare, it will eventually fail.
