It is pretty sad when you have to weld your tailgate to the truck so no one steals it. what is this world coming to?

I have tried this on every truck I have owned and I have never gotten any better MPG. On my B2500 it is actually worse.

Have you tried a tailgate lock, like the Poplock? I have one and it gives me confidence, but then I have never lost a tailgate to thieves, I do leave my truck at some trail heads overnight so everything on mine is double locked.

I actually just finished a class, and I can verify the bit about aerodynamics. Tonneau cover is best, followed by tailgate up.

I've heard of people putting a hose clamp on the side of the pivot that will release at the 45 degree angle to make it harder to steel. I've never tried this because i have a bedlid that will pin the tailgate from opening.
