I purchased a used 2002 about 1 month ago.
i just recently started doing some routine maintance and wanted to change the fuel filter, the truck has 80K miles, it is a F-350 S/D diesel 7.3
It is a 4x4 Lariat trim
My question is this: Has anybody replaced the filter itself and noticed the Napa and Fram filters are a 2 piece part, one is the outside screen and inside filter seem to be one piece.
I called my ford dealership and they told me that the filter is just by itself and costs $66.00
I am looking for all input, how often should they be changed?
thanks
bob
I think what your asking is "is the Ford filter one or two pieces?"
The filter should be a single canister-style element filter with o-rings. In my old 7.3, I would change the fuel filter every 15k miles or so. The best way to know when your fuel filter is ready for a change is to check mileage with every tank (either reset odom or use the overhead). When your mileage drops, your filters are dirty.
By the way, we do have good deals on Wix (same as Napa) filters.
I took off the top, screw cap style on my 2002 today
the cap seems to be attached to the screen.
whereas the filter sold by Napa was a two piece screen filter.
