help, reciently my 2wd f-100 started running rough wants to stall. hesitates, lost power in all 3 gears, must change gears at higher rpm than usual to keep from doing the herky jerkys. im not quite sure what engine is in it maybe a modified 351? what could be the cause of this and my new uncool flames? maybe skipping time, problem with the carb, or could it be the plugs and wires? im stranded please help.
:-X12 merry X-mas
i once had a 77 with a 351m in it and it did the same thing. i 1)did a tune up . plugs wires cap rotor. 2) rebuilt the carb. was a long time ago so i dont remember which one fixed it
Check your carb, I had this happen on my 85 E350 Ambulance I use for a work truck The Holley was shot, new one cured the problem. I thought the flames were kinda cool...hehe

99 Grand Prix GT 230 ft/lbs torque out of a non turbo'd 6 cyl hehe
i checked the air filter and its just black with soot, i left it off to see if it would make a difference and it didnt, but it did resemble a funny car with flame puffs coming out ot the carb tho.
Flames shooting out of the carb are another thing. You said you were talking about flames from the exhaust. You may have a burned valve and/or the timing chain has slipped. You may have to do some heavy duty detective work.
Thanks for using FTE!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Dec-02 AT 03:54 AM (EST)]Sounds neat"O" did it look somthing like this NOT! Well sounds like what happend to a friend of mine, he was useing a (HOLLEY) Carb and replaced it with an Edlebrock Carb and had no more probs and better performance So you could try rebuilding the carb, could have a leak somwhere.... Thats what I would recomend..... Rebuild it and then go from there... its like 15$ for the kit, and also check your points that might have somthing to do with it....?
its fixed and for under $30 too. it was the timing, but i also went ahead and put in new points, D cap and button, plugs and rebuilt the carb (which was burnt to a cinder i might add). thanks to all who helped me love ya all, nite i gotta work in the morning after i feed the horses =P
Flames from the exhaust is uncool??? Check out my gallery for the 75, called little black...flames from the exhaust are very cool...altho slightly illegal and will get you arrested under some circumstances...don't even think about asking. Later Whit
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Jan-03 AT 01:04 PM (EST)]My 77 1/2 ton with the 300 would blow flames from the exhaust if you ran it wide open for a while. The first time scared me to death, i was 16, had been driving about 100mph for quite a while, then let off. It was dark outside, so the flames in my rearview mirror were very noticable. Pretty cool tho
