Saw a black one the other day in a magazine. Auto/V-8. I guess
they're still rear wheel pushers, right? If so then, looks like someone finally retro'd a vehicle the right way.

Saw one at my local dealer yesterday. $39K plus $17K ADM. It was sold before it even arrived at the dealership.

It is flat out embarassing that these manufacturers are making these nice looking cars that should only go for $20,000 but they are bumping it up to $40,000 !!!!

I looked at a Toyota Highlander the other day with the wife. Only $30,000 for this small SUV. Ford and Che$y are just as guilty.

If I'm going to spend $30,000 for a Thunderbird, it will be a fully restored '55 through '57.

I saw one of these at a brewer game up here they had about 5 of them on display, you could sit in them and everything, no open hoods tho They look pretty nice but i think Ford should build them to compete with the corvette then they would have a true winner

krosati, thanks for the thread!

The photo of the hardtop with the porthole, for some reason reminds me of a German WWII helmet. I don't really like the porthole though. I think the porthole is a bad idea, since Ford is not making a reissue of the original TB.

I do like the photo of the convertable though. The front view reminds me of a '58-59 Corvette.

otto: No domestic car can ever compete with the Corvette. Not even the Viper. The race/development days are long over.

Just saw one up close for the first time last weekend. Interior looked cheap. Seats looked like nagahide and the white faced gauges looked like notebook paper. Being 6 foot it would have been a problem just to sit in it. I pulled my 96 bird right up next to it and it looked like a toy. They took a damn good car and ruinned it. I'll stick with the real tbird I have. You could buy 3 97's with minimal miles for the price of a new one (and have 10 times the car).

Not meaning to be rude, but a lot of people would say that your '96 is the one that isn't really a T-bird - and that the last "real" T-bird was made in 1957. A Thunderbird with a back seat isn't a Thunderbird, it's a family car in disguise. :-)

Not to be rude back, but I guess the other 30 years worth were not real either. Just one man's opinion. :-)

Yup! There are a fair number of people, myself included, that don't really count any of the 1958-1997 'birds as the "real" Thunderbirds, primarly because of the rear seat. The T-bird was originally intended to be a small 2-passenger sporty cruiser - not quite a "sports car", because the ride would be tuned to be a bit softer. But, in the name of increased sales they only made them like that until '57, and in '58 added a back seat to appeal to a wider consumer base...and later they even made them with 4 doors.

I'm not saying that the later Thunderbirds aren't real cars, just that they aren't really true to the design principles that were behind the first ones. I guess that makes me some kind of "Thunderbird purist"...or maybe just old-fashioned. :-)
