Has anyone been able to fix a RPS problem without taking it to FORD?
One day my system just stopped working. It was a dry day etc, and they were working fine before. I am not sure if a single sensor may be bad, causing the system to malfunction, or the switch in the dash is bad, or whatever.
Any ideas?
TIA
Cliff
In the last week, when I put the truck in reverse, I have only heard a single beep twice. All of the other times, no noise is made whatsoever. I might put an ohmmeter on the sensors and see if one has a reading different from the rest if this is possible.
Thanks
Cliff
I've tried to figure out how to test these ever since you posted about it. I looked at the wiring diagrams today and still couldn't figure it out. I checked the fuse panel drawings in the book and can't even find a fuse labeled for them. The only thing I discovered is when you cut the key on the "OFF" light will do a self test like the rest of the dash lights do. If it doesn't then there shouldn't be any power to them. I"d like to know how you fix them so if I have this problem I'll have a clue which direction to go.

My 2001 F250 is having a problem with the reverse sensor, seems like its in the dash board switch. When I start the truck, sometimes it's off and I can push the switch just right and it will come back on, but will go back off.

Same symptom as mine. It was a rear sensor. I don't know how much they cost, but it may be worth it to buy one and rotate through until you find the bad one.
The sensors have individual connectors behind the bumper, which connect to a main wire harness by the spare. Just pull each sensor and run a volt meter on it. Check for resistance. They should all measure the same. Also check the connectors. There not very water proof so there is a good chance your problem is just dirty contacts. Get some electrical spray cleaner, (radio shack) and spray out each connector.
Cost of sensors run from $22.00-$50.00 depending on the dealer. I had the same problem, it was a bad sensor. Unfortunately when one goes bad the whole system malfunctions.
