Brake Problems

I have a 2003 ford escape, that I bought new. I have had the worst problem with my brakes. I put brake pads on in September and now I just put new rotors on about a month ago. The pads were still good. I have now noticed that my brakes grind and sqeel. It doesn't happen all the time and it is hard to pinpoint just when it does it the most. Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone give me any advice on what to do. I know I need to repalce the brakes and rotors but any onther info would help.

Did you do all this work? Did you get the brake parts from Ford? You may want to get a good aftermarket pad and maybe some better rotors.

A good brake shop in your area might be able to help you out on good quality parts.

Good luck and Welcome to FTE!

If I recall correctly some pads aren't compatible with the original rotors, and vice verse.

I have replaced both pads ond rotors, but I did it about 4 months apart. My father tells me that I am crazy because he doesn't here it but I know what brakes are suppose to sound like and good brakes are not suppose to grind (seems like it does it most when it is hot or the brakes are hot. I am thinking I will just replace the pads and rotors again since theyt are both under warranty, then pads and rotors will be new, then if there is still a problem, I will take it to the dealer. Thank You

Yes, that slight grinding you hear may actually be coming from there. How many miles are on them?

I tried that a couple times. A very fine line between slowing the tires and stopping the tires. Could really hear the the tires sliding on the pavement though. Better to just do a rear brake inspection. Only takes about 15 minutes with a floor jack and lug wrench to do both (one at a time of course).

I have an 01 escape and have ran into the same problem. I replaced the rotors and pads at 40,000 miles and now they are already grinding and it's only got 64,000 miles on it now. I replaced them with Ford ones too. So maybe it's time to spend some extra money and buy aftermarket rotors and pads.

I have taken my escape to the dealer and they tell me that there is nothing wrong with them. I think I am just going to sell the car, as much as I love it. There is now a recall on the 01-05 escapes because of a defective excelorator cable. Your car will literally take off on its own and that causes the brakes to fail. A woman in my city had this problem after she had the cable replaced by the same dealer I baught my escape from, the car would not stop and was excelorating on it own (the cable gets stuck). She didn't know what to do going 60 mph in a very busy intersection, so she jumped from the car, and died of a head injury. I know that it could happen to any car but there is apparently something else wrong that Ford needs to look at. NOw I don't think I would jump from the car at that speed but. You may want to get yours checked if you haven't already. I Think I will just put cheap brakes on it for the time being and trade it in for something else because I have never had a problem like this with brakes on any of the cars that I have owned, and I have wasted alot of time and money just on the brakes.

Actually, the cable recall is on the 01 through 04 model. The notice can be found at the NHTSA website.
